A Quantel DFS 3000 transmitted a video image inset into the main picture showing a close-up of the Olympic torch as the runner entered the stadium.

This was many viewers' first experience of digital effects on television and a machine still supported by Effect Systems.

Today there is little doubt that whatever you watch on television, the chances are that it has been processed by Quantel equipment at some point during its production.
